Lizane Louw — Multimedia Journalist & Visual Artist | Editor of Foto-Kultur

Lizane Louw is a Berlin-based multimedia journalist, visual artist, and designer whose work spans field research, cultural storytelling, fine art photography, and contemporary textile art.

Lizane is the editor of Foto-Kultur, an independent webzine dedicated to photography, visual culture, and field-driven storytelling.

Her practice is rooted in long-form fieldwork across Asia, Europe, and Africa. Over nearly two decades, she has developed a photographic archive shaped by research, cultural immersion, and a sustained interest in how people live, move, and create meaning in place. Her work spans photojournalism, fine art photography, travel and culture journalism, and visual research.

At Foto-Kultur, Louw focuses on stories that connect photography to broader cultural and environmental contexts. Her long-form storytelling, cultural immersion, and research-based approach inform her documentary practice, her fine art prints, and the narrative methodologies behind her textile studio, Atelier Māya.

Originally trained in multimedia journalism, Louw holds a diploma in visual journalism and a master’s degree in journalism from Ateneo de Manila University. Before establishing her base in Berlin, she lived and worked in Asia, where she began documenting communities, landscapes, and craft traditions through both writing and photography.

Her editorial interests include photographic craft, material culture, heritage practices, environmental narratives, and the evolving relationship between image-making and place. Through Foto-Kultur, she aims to build a space for thoughtful, research-driven writing on photography and the stories behind it.
